03/04 SVT Cobra Hood Vent Installation
03/04 SVT Cobra Hood Vent Kit Installation
Step 1.
The included (8) M4X12mm screws MUST be coated with Vibra-Tite VC-3 Threadlocker compound which is included in your kit. VC-3 is a polymer compound used to prevent the loosening of the bolts under high vibration. This is NOT loctite, this compound will allow you to remove and adjust your hood vents as many as 5 times before reapplication of VC-3 is required. Be sure the VC-3 is well mixed before applying. Apply the coating to about the bottom 5mm of the threads and to achieve 30% to 50% thread fill. While Vibra-Tite VC-3 dries to the touch within minutes, the part should be given at least 30 minutes to dry before assembly. Set these screws off to the side for later.
Step 2.
Remove your OEM hood vents by depressing the two upper clips at the top/front of the vent and pushing towards the top side of the hood. It will help having a hand on the top side of the hood to catch the vent so as to not scratch the hood during removal.
Step 3.
Place a printed hood vent into the top of the hood opening. Starting with one of the supplied lower brackets (dual hole bracket), insert two M4x12mm screws through the bracket and attach the bracket to the vent from the underside of hood to “sandwich” the OEM hood between the vent and the bracket. DO NOT fully tighten the bottom bracket.
Step 4.
Once both bottom bracket bolts have been threaded into the vent. Attach the two upper brackets to the underside of the vent “sandwiching” the hood between the vent and bracket. DO NOT fully tighten upper bracket screws.
Step 5.
Center vent into hood opening. There should be a few MM’s all around the vent and allow you to adjust to your liking on the hood. Once you have got the vent centered to your liking, snug down all 4 bolts on the hood vent being careful NOT to overtighten screws. The VC-3 compound does not require you to impact these screws on. Overtightening will cause the material to split in half or rip the threads out of the vent. If you overtighten the screws and split the material in half this is NOT covered under warranty. You can apply force to tighten the screws and it takes quite a bit to overtighten these screws. We DO NOT recommend using power tools for install, a simple hand held screw driver will be perfect for install.
Step 6.
Repeat Step 2-5 for the opposite side of the hood and enjoy the increased looks and improved heat extraction out of your engine bay!
